Elongated, compressed body with a large head, projecting lower jaw, and well-developed adipose eyelid. The first dorsal fin has 8 spines, while the anal fin has 2 strong spines. Lateral line has 75–89 scales and scutes; the body is dark grey to bluish-green above, pale and silvery below, with a small black opercular spot and yellowish caudal fin. Max length: 60cm FL
