Elongated, fusiform body with a small head and a small or absent chin barbel. It has 30-40 dorsal and 30-35 anal soft rays, with no spines. Colour varies from yellowish-brown to dark blue or green, with lighter sides and belly, often with a small dark spot near the pectoral fin. Max length: 91.5 cm TL, Max age: 20 years
