Compressed body with 12 dorsal spines and 7-9 soft rays; the anal fin has 3 spines and 4-6 soft rays. Pectoral fins have 16-18 rays, with small scales arranged in 56–60 rows. The head and body have well-developed cirri, but the lower jaw lacks cirri. Max length: 40.5 cm TL
