It has an oval or pear-shaped, rough shell with two unequal valves. The left valve is concave and attached to the substrate, while the right valve is flatter. The shell is off-white to cream with brown or bluish bands and a pearly white to bluish-grey interior. It can grow up to 11 cm long.
